What makes a community you may ask? Stop by some time in the morning. Sometimes you will see a handful of people gathered or sometimes it may be just be me and one other. No matter, from the onset, I wanted this store to become a focal point of Downtown that gathered the young, the old and all those in between. After 5 years of business, I can say this to be true. It has amazed me at the number of friends and acquaintances you can develop. Besides our local townies there are commuters that come and go, some have retired, some just drive instead now, some can now work from home, some have moved, and some have passed on. New people to the area seem to take their place. They trek here from all over the area, from here in Brunswick, to Shepherdstown, Harpers Ferry, Lovettsville, and Hillsboro, Purcellville, Martinsburg and more. I get to see a mixed bag of friendly people everyday. This is what makes a community and that’s what keeps me waking up every morning at 4am to brew coffee and sell a few books or toys too. And although I know I will never be the richest proprietor in town, the rewards of smiles and friendships are worth their weight in gold.
Here’s to the next 5 years. Cheers.
